Justine Davies

Accounts & Tax Consultant

"Our clients are of utmost importance to me, whether they are a sole trader or director of a large multi-national firm. Everyone has their own goals and I strive to help them achieve them. A business’ financial health is at the core of what I do."

I qualified as an accountant in 1991, joined Lawrence Grant in May 1997 and I am now an Accounts and Tax Consultant at the firm.

My career in the field of accountancy and tax spans over 35 years. I bring to the practice a wealth of knowledge and expertise, particularly in the specialist areas of the legal and insurance sectors, where I oversee and advise on aspects of audit, accounts and tax requirements for our solicitor and insurance broker clients.

I am also part of our international tax team, advising both our local UK and overseas clients on areas of audit, accounts and tax - specifically holding companies, whether they are UK or internationally based, with company investments.

My expertise

I offer extensive tax knowledge across personal tax and corporation tax including limited companies and LLPs. My areas of experience also include:

  • Specialist services to the legal sector, specifically solicitors with both their accounting and audit needs, in order to satisfy the requirements of the SRA – Solicitors Regulatory Authority
  • Specialist services to the insurance sector, specifically insurance brokers with their FCA and audit requirements
  • Statutory audits for UK based subsidiaries
  • HMRC tax enquiries - dealing with HMRC and tax barristers
  • VAT consulting – following Brexit, advising clients on imports and exports and worldwide billing
  • Review of accounting systems and recommendations on improvements and automation for all industries

The firm

Whilst working at Lawrence Grant, I have been extensively involved in the continued professional development of the firm. I have directly trained fellow team members on the completion of accounts assignments and SRA audits, enabling career progression. My investment in the team is a rewarding part of my role as an Accounts and Tax Consultant.

I am also an active networker and spend time connecting our firm to new businesses and clients, through the local BNI networking group and at other networking events. These events give me the opportunity to impart my knowledge and assist businesses to see how they can improve their tax processes and position.

Personal

Outside of work, I enjoy going to the theatre and cinema and spending time with my husband, Roger and two sons, Jamie and Ryder.

What is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is actually an old book of poems from my school days; I enjoy the old style poems, especially “Morte d’Arthur” by Tennyson, which reflects my love of history.

What is your favourite film and why?

My favourite film is “Apollo 13” with Tom Hanks and Ed Harris. I enjoy true-life films and space adventure, so this combines both.

Who most inspires you?

My youngest son Ryder. He is autistic and views the world in a different way to the way we do. He faces challenges on a daily basis. I learn so much from him and love his positivity and empathy.
