Requirements:

  • Good technical skills in tax (UK and international) and accounts.
  • Be responsible for tasks which could range from accounts preparation (relating to Companies, Partnerships, LLP’s and sole traders), completion of personal and partnership tax returns and computations, assisting clients with HMRC tax enquiries and other tax matters, completing P11D returns and any other special assignments and/or ad-hoc projects as required by the managers/partners.
  • Review and completion of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, LLP and company accounts as well as income tax, corporation tax computations, VAT Returns and EC Sales List
  • To act as primary contact for a portfolio of international clients
  • Provide tax planning and structuring advice to the firm’s UK and International clients.
  • Advise international clients on UK residence and domicile matters
  • Advice on pre-arrival tax planning opportunities, remittance of funds and distinction of clean capital including preparation of tax memorandums
  • Advise clients on the ever changing property taxes and provide property structuring advice
  • Advice in respect of the non-resident landlord scheme and attend to various related compliance
  • Provide inheritance tax advice and capital gains tax advice with an international focus
  • Advice on offshore trusts and offshore companies and their related UK tax implications
  • Advice to individuals coming to work in the UK, overseas workday relief and all related matters
  • Advice on cross border VAT queries, import/export queries
  • Liaise with practice manager on progress for all jobs and cross selling opportunities.
  • Ensure that all assignments are completed to a high standard before passing them on for manager/partner review.
  • Control cost budgets, meet reporting timetables and prepare key client reporting documents.
  • Be prepared to travel abroad for GGI conferences, meeting with the firm’s international clients and taking part in seminars and trade missions
  • Actively manage your self-development and continuing professional education.
  • Attend CPD courses or other professional courses as required by the firm.
  • Have a genuine interest in understanding your clients’ businesses with the drive to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Ensure IRIS/CCH Practice Management is kept up to date in respect of all your assignments.

Main responsibilities

Accounts Preparation

  • Small limited companies, LLPs, sole traders and partnerships, pension schemes
  • Prepare planning sections of work programme in accordance with office guidelines
  • Prepare and monitor budgets
  • Liaise with clients for information gathering purposes
  • Settle queries with seniors
  • Prepare completion section work programme including paper or electronic disclosure checklists
  • Review with seniors and complete file including reporting pack

Bookkeeping

  • Write up cash books, sales day books, purchase day books for limited companies, LLPs, sole traders and partnerships
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Prepare accounts from incomplete records or client trial balances (Sage, Xero, Quickbooks, etc)
  • Liaise with clients for information gathering purposes
  • Settle queries with seniors
  • Review with seniors and complete file including reporting pack

Audit

  • Internal and external audits
  • Fieldwork testing of bank, sales, purchases, including stock take attendance and other site verifications

Tax

  • Prepare personal tax returns
  • Prepare VAT returns
  • Prepare corporation tax computations and returns
  • Prepare P11ds

General

  • Occasional advisory work – business plans, profit and cash flow forecasts
  • Deal with correspondence from clients
  • Review work of juniors, resolve technical queries and ensure the file is complete and all review points addressed before passed to the manager
  • Attendance at in house and external professional training courses
  • Be aware of other LG services and products which may be appropriate to clients

Qualifications & skills

  • Accounting and finance or other relevant degree preferred but not essential
  • ACCA/ACA exam qualified preferred but not essential
  • 18 months post membership experience
  • Good up-to-date CPE and recent developments in accounting standards
  • Experience of OMB's covering a range of industries
  • Computer packages – Excel, Word, Outlook, Sage Line 50, Iris, CCH Pro audit, VT

Qualification and Skills

  • ACCA/ACA fully qualified would be desirable
